PR PRIORITY ONE

First things, firstdecide what you want to achieve. (This article is about hiring a PR agency, but the questions you need to ask yourself are the same.)

PR PRIORITY TWO

Prepare your online presence. Get a website up – even if it’s just a contact/ sales page. Use WordPress or Squarespace because I find these much more scalable and give you room to add in software to allow your business to grow.

PR PRIORITY THREE

Start collecting emails to create a list of contacts – even if it’s just people you know. This will be the foundation of your content marketing which helps you build an audience of loyal followers who actively want to buy from you.

PR PRIORITY FOUR

Start following other people to get tips. The Guardian Small Business Network in good place to start and general is bank of helpful ‘how to’ style articles – scroll to the bottom of the page and browse their hubs. Sign up to the newsletter. Read the expert PR tips for small businesses from The Guardian.
